After a lot of time and effort, Pitch 4 is now floodlit!

Just in time for the 2021/22 Season, the Club's functionality has been improved through the installation of a third set of floodlights - these ones on Pitch 4.

Field took a step in the dark back in 2014 to establish floodlights on its 1st XV Pitch but the decision to light Pitch 4 needed no lightbulb moment - over the 5-seasons up to and including 2019-20, the floodlit pitches have been used by more than 23,000 players.

It's not only the Field that has benefitted from the lights; the Club has opened its facilities to host local community matches and competitions and even other clubs whose pitches have been waterlogged or otherwise unplayable.

The success of the original floodlit pitches are also the reason why the Club needs a third; even with the excellent work by Club and Council over the last few years to improve the playing surface, the ground still gets trashed. The increased number of pitches allows the Club to rotate more, to ensure the ground stays in reasonable nick through season.

The enhanced facility opens up the possibility of more 'Friday Night Under Lights' matches for both Senior and Junior teams, for example: Friday 10th Dec: Churchers College U12-U18s v PRFC U12-Colts for the Frank Guy Trophy, plus 3x Vets Round Robin floodlit events through season.

How they were funded?

  • Part Club
  • Part Sponsor
  • Part EHDC Grant

Are they Eco-friendly?
  • They are OptiVision LED gen3.5 - the LED means lower power use
  • They are in 3-sections meaning they can be angled individually to maximise light on to the pitch and minimise the back light - no light into the hedges around Pitch 4, as demonstrated perfectly by the cover photo
  • They provide lighting to the same specification as the current lights – match standard Level 4
