PRFC nemesis, New Milton, deprives Under 8s of a cup win at the Havant Festival

Despite the wet start, and Glastonbury mud, we had a great day out in Havant. All of the players behaved impeccably and with maturity and were a credit to the club and their parents.

I'd promised the teams that, if they won the cup outright, John, Chris and I would belly flop into a huge puddle of muddy water near the U8 pitches.

The As
The As were made up of emerging players who proved beyond doubt that they have emerged. There were a lot of very strong teams there on Sunday, with most clubs fielding just their top team. The As gave a fantastic display of rugby, sportsmanship and determination and worked well together, with every player involved in every play. They all covered some spectacular distances back and forth across the pitch (we need to chat about that for next season!). There were some hefty knocks and bangs, but they all got up and got on with it. They have a very bright future within the squad.

The 1s
The 1s were made up from the top shelf and all had their part to play in a very successful day. The play was fast, unpredictable and tidy. Even though the ball was very wet, muddy and slippery, the squad scooped up long and short passes alike and powered their way deep into opposition territory. They won all of their group games and made it through to the cup final rounds. Here, they met New Milton – PRFC’s nemesis. Two toughly fought halves and some real moments of genius ended up in their first (and only) loss of the day - 6-5. It could not have been any closer.

Well done to all and see you again next season
