With their own support turning out in droves the 3rd XV put on a more free-scoring affair than that on offer on the 1st team pitch.
Petersfield showed their strength in the back line, with tries coming from powerful runs from the midfield. Alton meanwhile shaded the battle in the forwards.
Alton it was who scored the first try - unconverted - but their lead was not to last long as Hopkins broke from distance to score Field’s first. With the conversion knocked over Field took the lead which they never surrendered for the rest of the match.
At half time Field were almost out of sight at 26-10, and as the second half progressed they made good on the promise shown in the first by racking up an impressive score.
After the game, Field’s Jon Walker paid tribute to both teams, “Alton were very strong in the forwards and gave us a lot of problems. However, our backs were more than equal to the task and took every opportunity to run the ball into Alton’s half, more often than not ending up with a score.”
The squad are on the road next week with a trip along the south coast to meet Southampton RFC’s 2nd team.
