The Big Interview | Dan Sargent Speaks Ahead Of Saturday

The Big Interview | Dan Sargent Speaks Ahead Of Saturday

James Barden29 Nov - 17:15

We caught up with veteran prop and 24/25 top try scorer Dan Sargent in the week.

Joining Petersfield RFC from Worthing in January 2024, Dan Sargent, affectionately known as ‘Sarge,’ brings with him a wealth of experience, having made 185 appearances in the National League. This season, he’s been in impressive form, scoring 10 tries already—a remarkable feat for a prop. Ahead of today’s clash with Winchester, PRFC sat down with Dan to get his thoughts.

PRFC: Big game this weekend with Winchester visiting Penns Place. How are you feeling about it?

DS: The boys have trained well this week and are looking forward to getting back out on the field after a week off. I’m sure we can build on that much-needed win last time out against Guildford.

PRFC: A mixed bag of results so far this season has us sitting in 6th. How are you feeling heading into the second half of the season?

DS: Going into this league was a complete unknown for us. We’ve had some disappointing results (to put it lightly), but we’ve shown we can more than compete and probably should have won a few against the “top teams.” Heading into the second half of the season, we need to start seeing out these tight games.

PRFC: It’s very rare to hear of a prop being a side’s top try scorer, but you’ve bagged 10 so far this season! How has that come about?

DS: Wheels and footwork! But really, it’s all about profiting from the hard work of others—someone has to score them, don’t they?

PRFC: Having played National League rugby for the majority of your career, how do you feel this Petersfield squad fares? Where would you like the club to be going into next season?

DS: We’re only a couple of leagues away from having National League rugby at Penns Place, and there’s no reason why this couldn’t happen in the next few years. I just hope I can contribute and be part of that journey in any capacity.

PRFC: Lastly, we have our annual Vice Presidents Lunch on Saturday. What would you like to say to our esteemed guests ahead of kick-off?

DS: Enjoy the lunch and the drinks… and fingers crossed for a big win! Save me a beer or two, please. Up the Rams!

Catch Dan Sargent and the rest of the 1st XV in action today as they take on Winchester at Penns Place. Kick-off is at 3pm—be there to support the boys!
