The final score of 68-17 in the Hampshire II Merit Table clash underlined the home side's pace superiority and commitment to playing fast, attacking running rugby ; a tactic carried over from the teams success of last season. The visitors made Field's pack work hard at every set piece and breakdown but, once the ball was won, Field released their backs who's pace and aggression meant every break was likely to be try time.
From the KO Petersfield announced their intent with a quick try, and then it was virtually one way traffic as the Belcher and Haslett roadshow took it in turns to leave the Ryde defence clutching at thin air.
Skipper Jamie Williams said: "Ryde weren't a pushover up front, but our advantage was our pace out wide. It was a good start to the league season, and we are aiming to maintain and develop this style of play throughout."
