It was definitely a game of two halves for the visitors, as they struggled to get up to speed following a weekend off last week. Field struggling to execute the basics and allowed Trojans get ahead from the outset of the match. When halftime came, the home side had a 12-0 lead and the visitors knew they would have to pull their socks up if they wanted anything from the game.
The talk at the break must’ve done the trick as it was Field drew who first blood when the second half got under way. From this opening score, Field showed themselves to be a new team and, once the flood gates were opened, there was no stopping them.
The relentless onslaught stopped the home side in their tracks. Field’s link up play was sec-ond to none with some exceptional team work. The tries rained in from the visitors with seven scored for the loss of just one – demonstrating, if such a demonstration was required, that you can only score tries if you have the ball. By the time the final whistle sounded, Adams, Coombes-Excell and Samworthy had scored a try each, with Thomas and Orr claiming a brace – Orr cruelly denied a well-deserved hatrick. Groves was keen with the boot as usual, making four of the conversions.
The result lifts a resurgent Field to third in the league on score difference, as they the Hea-thens and Stoneham all share the same points. Next week Field host Ryde, who currently sit just below them in the table.
