… in a thrilling match 13 - 10.

Fawley 1st team, who were unbeaten so far this season, came to Petersfield with a game plan but were frustrated and surprised at the intensity of their opposition.

Field kicked off with a strong wind behind and the ball bounced straight off the pitch gifting the ball to Fawley who rapaid the complement by not throwing the ball in straight. A sign of the difficult conditions. In the first 15 minutes of play Field were to win the arm wrestle at the break down and had the best chances. A drive over from a line out was deemed to have been held up, and it was a further 10 minutes or so before Field converted territory and pressure into points via a penalty with Allan doing the honours.

Fawley made a number of forays into Fields territory but were unable to break through the final defence and convert 5 metres from the try line. Conversely a tap-and-go penalty by Ellis supported by Bremner was made 5 metres out from the Fawley try line. Field ending the half 8 points to the good unanswered on the score board.

A missed catch from the kick off that rick-o-shayed off a Field player put Fawley in control, and a move to their wing across the pitch enabled them to get onto the score board straight away. Fields defence was resolute and this was perhaps the only tackle missed in the entire match and ultimately held them in good stead. A move from the SH to Allen who made hard yards and releasing Sharrock enabling the latter to touch down and stretch the Field lead to 13 - 5. Fawleys attack was relentless and using the wind to their advantage subsequently managed to drive over from a line out 5 metres out.

The last 20 minutes of play were almost exclusively played in Fields 22 and it was pure defensive pressure that forced Fawley to press too hard and knock on from an otherwise almost certain try which meant Field held out for the win.

Field's head coach had asked for structure, tackling, and a win from his charges, and in parts the former was achieved and the last two goals achieved with aplomb. Fawley graciously acknowledged that Field deserved to win a very hard fought and great contest of rugby. M.O.M for Field was White who pressured throughout the game.
