Aldershot & Fleet touring team ..

Petersfield who were fresh off a win against the league leaders travelled to Aldershot & Fleet (A&F) with high hopes.

However A&F, who had a number of the Fijian touring lads in their team, got off to a fast start, hit hard, ran fast, and passed with class and were 12 points to the good before Petersfield woke up; A SH pop from the base enabled Sharrock to drive over for the opening try converted by Bremner. Two more tries for A&F’s, via their forwards hitting and carrying well, were finished by their Fijian contingent once more. The response was line pressure from Field, forward drives, and Powell picked out by the SH for a crash ball try, again converted by Bremner. Half time score 26- 14 to A&F.

A fast start to the second half, with pressure from White following the kick off by Field, enabled Bremner to tackle the 13 who spilled the ball; The ensuing scrum led to a move through the backs; finishing with Stewart ( an excellent debut for a colt ) to Bremner to Giles for a walk in.

A period of pressure, pinning A&F back in their half, led to Groves finishing from a metre out to put the visitors ahead. The game became more fractured as players tired and A&F broke away again to score two more tries. White rallied the Field troops with a series of carries, and a collision that could be heard back in Petersfield !, that spurred Sharrock on to punch through three defenders, after the first phase move, to score for Field.

The game finished with Field once again, battling back against A&F tries, applying moments of quality, and rolling pressure culminating in Giles ( M.O.M for Field ) forcing though two bigger defenders to score a sixth and final try for Field. Credit to the scratch side that Field presented but A&F had a great combination of forwards pack play with quality backs that saw them ultimately run out winners 57 - 36.
