Havant III’s made the journey to Penns place and kicked off; Fields forwards were to make a few breaks although on too many occasions were isolated and ball was turned over. Havant competed well at the break down and despite Field having most of the possession in the opening 15 minutes were to evade one tackle and thus break through to open the score. A good distance kick from their 10 saw them lead by 7 points. A familiar pattern developed and this time a penalty nudged the visitors to 10. This was quickly followed by another converted try., and with Fields line-out often misfiring Havant were to end the half 17 points up unanswered on the score board albeit not the contest.
In the second half Mathews entering the fray for Field's injured fly half made an immediate impact, and with the Field forwards working better as pods were able to create some space for the backs to exploit. Just such a break saw Sharrock break through the middle, pass to Mathews who put the winger Giles in to score. The distance too far for the wayward conversion attempt. Havant were to have their chances but Fields defence worked well. A bit of ill-discipline from both sides and knock-ons interrupted the flow of play but it was Field who continued to exert most pressure and a series of attempts at breaching the try line ultimately just failed. Field won the second half but were not fluid enough to make the possession tell, and the final score line was Havant 17 to Field 5. Man of the Match for field was debutant Cox who stuck at his task with Mathews a close second. Havant played well enough to win although Field will feel they let an opportunity slip by to do better.
