Winning streak for Petersfield 2’nds ends…

A scratch side from Petersfield, (and short in the subs), but with recent wins under their belt and so still with high expectations, travelled away to Chineham.

Chineham kicked to Field at the outset and tried to outfox their opponents with a switched kick off. Field were, however, alert enough to gather the ball and go through some phases before Chineham turned the ball over. Field won the ball back and made good yards and, from their line out deep in Chineham territory, the ball was moved quickly from 9 to 10 to Powell who scored his first try for the club. This was a great solo effort, bursting through tackles and handing off his opposite number before crossing the line under extreme pressure from two defenders, wrestling the ball to the deck to open the scoring. It was not long before Chineham were to respond and level the score. As Chineham grew into the game, Field were out muscled by their pack and with no clean ball to work with it proved tough for the visitors to build any attacking play. When Field did get the ball in hand they proved their worth but only really managed to play fluid rugby for about a quarter of the game with only had sporadic bursts of individual moments from players throughout the remainder.

Chineham forwards dominated play and forged ahead scoring multiple times. Field kept at it and their tackle count was high, with Field's man of the match Coombes-Excell adding more than his fair share to the tally. Nonetheless, it was the better team who had most possession and clinical execution. Field had a few good passages of play towards the end of the game and came very close to scoring twice in the last ten minutes. It was however a deserved win for Chineham who showed that they were a strong team who played together well, ending the day 78 - 7 winners.
