Portsmouth Vets19pts vs. Petersfield Vets 17pts
Sadly, Petersfield arrived twenty minutes late for kick off due to the A3 closure, and were even later in tuning into the demands of the game once it started.
With only fourteen players, a new front row combination and a back at second row, the challenge was going to be tough. Portsmouth, with a strong pack, kept things tight, and chose the narrow channel whenever possible – scoring early on when their inside centre, Bolt, cut back and touched down from ten metres out. And it was the same Bolt who was to score again in the second half, with basic tackling letting the visitors down.
A series of penalties in all directions lead to a disjointed match, with Campbell Wilson keeping Petersfield in the game with three points and a conversion to round off a charge down and touch down – ironically scored by a Portsmouth player, sportingly on loan to ‘Field.
A penalty try awarded to Petersfield led to hopes of a come back, but time and structure evaded the Vets and a defeat was the result.
