Petersfield RFC can confirm that Saturday’s scheduled fixture against Ellingham & Ringwood has been cancelled following the opposition’s inability to field a side.
As a result, the match has been awarded to Petersfield as a home walkover, with the club receiving five league points.
Whilst the points are welcomed, it is a disappointing way to approach what would have been our final home fixture of the season, with players, supporters and sponsors all set to come together for one last matchday at Penns Place.
The cancellation also means that our scheduled Club Lunch, due to be the final one of the season, will no longer be taking place. We appreciate the support of everyone who had planned to attend and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The 1st XV now turn their full attention to a huge away fixture against Tottonians, with a place in the playoffs firmly on the line. It promises to be a defining afternoon for the group, with everything still to play for as the season reaches its climax.
Whilst Saturday’s outcome is not how anyone would have wanted things to unfold, we would like to place on record our appreciation for Ellingham & Ringwood’s efforts throughout the season. Competing week in, week out at this level is no small task, and we recognise the challenges that come with it. We wish them all the very best and hope to see them come back stronger next season.
For Petersfield, the focus is now clear, one final push, one massive test, and an opportunity to secure a place in the playoffs.
