After a stinging defeat against Alton away from home last Sunday, Petersfield Women returned to training this week with a fire in their bellies and a hunger for redemption. There is no doubt that the team were able to display their hard work and commitment, scoring two tries and holding a hard defensive line, but the scoreline reflected there is still work to be done.
Today ‘Field are set to play Horsham II, the first game in their first NC3 league where they hope to fight for the top spot. Horsham’s 2XV Lionesses competed in the South East NC3 League last year with little luck, finishing 7th out of 7 in the table. They didn’t manage to secure a win, however they had some close calls, almost beating Cranleigh Women by 3 points in April.
However, this season it’s all to play for. Both sides will want to avenge their previous losses and prove their worth within this league. As this game is on ‘Field’s home turf, they will have the advantage of familiarity and will bid to use this to bring home their first points of the season. Despite some injuries during last weekend’s match against Alton, the home side have depth to their matchday squad, with several impact players waiting on the bench to make their mark.
In the front row this week is Ayah Alzetani, Claire Glennon, and Naia Boyes, with Naimh Shute and Jas Warren close behind in the second row. Rounding off an impressive forwards squad is Amy Hinxman, Sasha Ward, and Soph Sinclair-Black. In the scrum-half position is Maz Gregory, recently back from injury and ready to show this league what she’s made of. Hannah Wright returns to the fly-half position, and Holly Mullard dons the 11 jersey. Lydia Morris starts at 12, Tegan Kinch at 13, and Lillie Mason at 14. Captain Kam Carty will lead the team from the fullback position, where she massages to simultaneously carry the attack and hold the defence.
The impact players for this match are Esther Figgins, Laura Pinder, Becky Steer, Lucy Shaw-Hill, Fran Ellis, and Lucy Barton. These players will no doubt be invaluable to the home side throughout the game and make their mark against Hrosham II.
Good luck to our Petersfield Women’s team and we hope you will come down to Penns Place to support and enjoy the match!
