This time last year, the Petersfield Women’s team was gradually taking shape and carving its identity in the local rugby scene. This collective of players - some with experience under their belt, others taking their first steps onto the pitch - worked week in and week out with one goal in mind: to re-establish Petersfield on the map of Women’s Club Rugby.
All expectations that were put on the team were met, and some. Not only did ‘Field secure 4 wins from Inner Warrior and friendly matches, but they developed extensively as individual players and as a team. This season, Petersfield Women are set to play in NC3 and the Women’s Community cup, as well as taking advantage of friendly fixtures where possible to add gametime to the belt.
The first match of the season is a Women’s Community Cup fixture against Alton Red Belles on their home turf at Anstey Lane. Cast your mind back to the 9th November 2025, when Petersfield first faced Alton and took their second win in a row as a new team. The score at the end of the 80 minutes was 38 - 29, a tough but rewarding game that represented more than just another win. This game proved that Petersfield Women had something to say. Their first game was no fluke; they came to win.
Now we look towards the 2:30pm kick-off, almost 1 year later and 1 year wiser. This Petersfield side still has the same hunger to win, with a whole season of experience to draw upon. ‘Field will be looking to maintain their winning streak against the Belles, but will Alton be hungry for redemption?
Your ‘Field side today starts strong with Laura Pinder, Claire Glennon, and Maddie Drennan in the front row, followed by Naimh Shute and Soph Sinclair-Black close behind and Esther Figgins, Sasha Ward, and Lucy Shaw-Hill in the back row to round off a solid forwards squad. In the number 9 position sits Lucy Barton, with Tegan Kinch her number 10. Fran Ellis, Maddy Hall, Holly Mullard, Lillie Mason, and Kam Carty complete the 15 and ensure that this match will be one to keep your eyes on. Impact players for this match include Laura Beale, Jas Warren, and Daisy Plant, ready to make a difference when its needed.
Petersfield Women will face Alton Red Belles at 2:30pm on Sunday the 4th October 2026 at Anstey Lane. Come down to support the women in their first game of the season!
