Petersfield Wrapped: A Look Back At a Magic 2025

James Barden12 Dec - 13:53

Get the rundown on what has been a special 2025, including stats from all teams, achievements by individuals and top try scorers!

every year, the world briefly loses its head over Spotify Wrapped. Playlists are analysed, minutes listened are compared, and everyone suddenly becomes an expert on their own data.

So, in the same spirit, Petersfield RFC has decided to do something similar.

Welcome to PRFC Wrapped 2025.

While our social media channels will carry the graphic heavy, headline grabbing version of our Wrapped series, this article exists to tell the story behind the numbers. Because 2025 was not just busy for Petersfield Rugby Club. It was genuinely special.

Across the club, 47 matches were played during the year. The 1st XV were responsible for 19 of those, the women’s team played three with a fourth coming this Sunday, the 2nd XV contested 15 fixtures, the 3rd XV played five and the vets added another five. In total, that amounts to 3,810 minutes of rugby, the equivalent of 2.65 full days of match action.

With 24 squads now wearing the badge, Petersfield RFC feels less like a single team and more like a thriving ecosystem. If this were a playlist, it would not be a tidy top ten. It would be sprawling, varied and constantly evolving.

The standout story of 2025 has been the return of women’s rugby to Petersfield RFC. What began as a simple idea in January became a reality by December, with 46 players now calling the club home. Fuelled by the success of the Red Roses and a clear ambition to build an inclusive environment for players of all ages and abilities, momentum built quickly and naturally.

Three matches were played, two were won, and each represented a landmark moment. A first ever fixture and victory against Littlehampton in front of a packed Penns Place. A launch evening in September that attracted 26 players to the first session. The Unleashed event at the Pub 7s that laid the foundations for the squad. A second win against Alton Belles. And finally, a first away day to Salisbury which, despite ending in defeat, marked another important step forward.

On the pitch, contributions came from across the squad. Holly Mullard led the way with five tries, while Tegan Kinch added points both as a scorer and from the tee. Holly Allsop, Kam Carty and Esther Figgins also made their mark, but the most important achievement of all has been the pathway now firmly in place for the future.

That pathway is already being well used by the club’s girls section, which has continued to grow at an impressive rate. Four Under 16 players were selected for
Hampshire, while the introduction of the PRFC Girls Academy transformed weekly skills sessions for Under 9 to Under 12 players. What started with just three attendees grew to 19 by the end of the year.

The impact of the Red Roses’ Rugby World Cup triumph was felt immediately, with 25 new players attending a girls rugby activity day just a day after the final. Partnerships remained strong too, with the continued support of Maddy’s Mark ensuring new training kits for the section. In total, 17 new players joined during the year, taking the girls section to 61 players, with even greater growth expected now women’s rugby is firmly re established.

The youth section also enjoyed a strong 2025, with success spread across the age groups. From cup runs to county finals, the club’s young players continued to compete at a high level, supported by an environment that prioritises development as much as results. As things stand, 36 Petersfield players across the youth and girls sections are now representing either Hampshire, a top 30 rugby school or a Premiership pathway programme.

At the younger end of the club, minis rugby continues to provide the foundations for everything that follows. Full training, festival and match schedules ran throughout the season for Under 7 to Under 12 players, including round robin fixtures hosted on Churcher’s College pitches. In total, 532 players between the ages of six and 18 now represent Petersfield RFC, more than at any point in the club’s history.

On the senior men’s side, progress has been just as clear. The 1st XV finished last season in the highest league position the club has ever achieved, while the 2nd XV are also competing at their highest level in the English rugby pyramid. This season alone, the 2nd XV have faced sides that the 1st XV were regularly playing just three years ago.

Individually, several players stood out across the year, with Dan Sargent leading the try scoring charts, supported closely by Eddie Matthews, Liam Perkins, Charlie Muir and Franko Tomic. Team performances followed suit, with standout victories including heavy wins over Isle of Wight, Andover and Guildford, as well as dominant away performances at Reeds Weybridge and Wimborne.

The 1st XV finished 2025 with a win percentage of 63.2 per cent, achieved while regularly facing sides who operate with paid playing squads, something Petersfield RFC continues to resist.

None of this happens in isolation. Every minute played, every shirt pulled on and every step forward has been supported by coaches, volunteers, supporters and partners who give their time and energy to the club week in, week out.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making 2025 what it was.

Here’s to even more magic in 2026.
