This Saturday, Penns Place will be the area’s premier sporting venue when 100 former players and friends assemble for a pre match lunch before the league topping Weybridge Vandals arrive with three buses full of supporters. It is hoped that whichever team end as victors the match will be of a high standard and closely fought.
Everyone is invited to swell the touchline to support support Petersfield RFC in this winner takes all contest.
It's been 27-weeks and 21-games since Field kicked off their return to the London & SE Division in emphatic style.
At the start of September 2021, Weybridge and Field met in the first match of the season and few at that time would have thought that the 19-19 result was to be a presage of the rest of the campaign. Field led the league table for most of the season, hunted remorselessly by Weybridge Vandals and Warlingham as the three teams piled on the points and win after win to record almost identical statistics.
Defeat by Warlingham in both home and away fixtures - the home match by an agonising 2-point score difference - and an away loss at Old Walcountians dented Field's title chances and dropped them to third place, but a win on Saturday would see them leapfrog the Vandals.
It seems unlikely that second-placed, Warlingham will do Field a favour by losing at Old Emanuel (who they trounced in the reverse fixture 41-8).
