Women’s rugby is booming across the UK, fuelled by the unstoppable rise of the Red Roses, The PWR, and a powerful shift in public support for female sport. At Petersfield, the re-launch of our women’s section is more than just another team - it’s a signal of intent.
“As the club strives to improve in all areas, and with a fast-growing girls' section, the opportunity to provide a full pathway into women’s rugby is a massive step forward,” said Chairman Stuart Barden.
“We start, we build, and we improve - just as we do with all aspects of the club. This is a movement we’re throwing our full support behind, and we’ll do everything we can to make it a long-term success.”
Led by new Women’s Director of Rugby Esther Figgins, the team is already gathering momentum with a mix of experienced players and complete newcomers stepping forward to be part of something special. Esther added:
“Women’s rugby is the perfect opportunity for meeting new and amazing women in a welcoming, exciting environment. Whether you’re a seasoned player, a sideline fan, or completely new to the game, this is a place for you.
Come have a go, meet some teammates for life, and be part of something powerful. Let’s bring women’s rugby back to Petersfield - and do it properly.”
As we prepare for the launch event that is chalked in for the end of August, we are actively seeking coaches, team administrators, and local sponsors to help this new chapter get off the ground. If you’re passionate about growing the women’s game or supporting grassroots sport in our town, we want to hear from you.
Training will run every Tuesday evening and Sunday morning, with the first open taster session taking place in August 2025 - date to be confirmed very soon.
Whether you're looking for a new hobby, recently moved to the area, or you’re a seasoned veteran of the local rugby scene, you’ll be more than welcome at Petersfield RFC. We are committed to creating an environment that empowers women, encourages confidence, and celebrates participation at every level.
The return of the women’s team also builds on Petersfield’s recent success with the Girls’ section, creating a clear and inspiring pathway for young players from minis to adult rugby. For Clubhouse Manager Jolene Sims, that connection to the future is vital:
“It’s time for PRFC to push forward and be a real part of the undeniable rise of women’s sport in the UK. With the Red Roses' success, it’s impossible to ignore.
It’s time to bring women’s rugby back - and give our young female players a team they can aspire to and grow into.
On and off the pitch… here come the girls.”
Whether you're looking to stay active, try something new, make friends, or rediscover your love of the game - there’s a place for you at Petersfield.
