Petersfield, were out of the blocks and down the slope of the pitch into Andover’s 22. Some big hits from Andover and their equal from Field had Andover knock on. From the resulting scrum Field passed the ball to the right finding Player Coach and Second Row Harry Green on an angled run to round the home defence and dot down for Fly Half Nick Blumlein to convert the try. 0-7
Field soon benefited from a penalty lineout on the left in the hosts twenty two and securing the ball it was speedily shipped through several pairs of hands in to right wing Miles Sampson who jinked his way through the defence to score an unconverted try. 0-12
On 20 minutes with Petersfield in possession some short passes and mini mauls found play on a congested right wing where the host were valiantly defending. They were unlocked by an audacious reverse pass from Outside Centre Jordan Allan to Hooker Sam Brown who made one of his signature dash and crash charges to the line to score Petersfield’s third try which was not converted. 0-17
Andover were not going to lie down and their determined assault on the visitors half had Field back pedalling in defence which drew the attention of Referee Melhuish who found that Field had committed too many infringements at the breakdown and presented a Yellow Card to a Field forward, followed in the next phase of play, by Field having a second forward sent to the bin.
Andover capitalised on their numerical superiority and from a scrum were able to maul towards Fields try line and rumble over for a converted try. Even when Petersfield were restored to full strength they were unable to improve their score. Half Time 7-17
From the start of the second half with crunching tackles and competitive rucks Petersfield’s reliable playmaker Fly Half Nick Blumlein was side-lined through injury.
After ten minutes some slick work on the half way and quick hands found Fields Number Eight Tom Whitehouse dodge tackles and with his surprising turn of speed make twenty metres down the wing only to the despair of the hosts touching down under the posts, Scrum Half Duffus converting. 7-24
Duffus was the next Field playmaker to make way through injury and with just the regulation three replacements Fields resources were somewhat depleted. This rearrangement only let Field down early on when inside Andovers twenty two Fields speculative pass was neatly intercepted by the host Centre to cross the halfway and pass to his excellent speedy Right Winger who shrugged off a couple of chasing tackles to score a converted try. 14-24
Petersfields Miles Sampson scored a spectacular individual try cleanly catching an Andover kick outstripping the on running visitors to chip over their Winger and grubber kick past the Full Back to score in the corner to be improved by replacement Scrum Half Cam McGuigan. 14-31
Miles Sampson repeated his dash and chip over for his brother Lloyd Sampson to touch down for an unconverted try. 14-36
Andover, who never capitulated, took advantage of a penalty kick deep into Fields half to win the lineout and again maul the ball over the line for an unconverted try 19-36
Duffus who had been patched up and returned to the pitch scored Petersfields seventh try, on the whistle for no side, which was not improved 19-41
The rest of the squad played tirelessly; Jackson Clark, Ryan Wilkie, Kieran Gericke, Eryn Eyles, Franco Tomic, Nick Wilde, Andy Wood, Ryan Moore, and Jamie Williams
Next week’s Penns Place fixture where over 100 Vice Presidents and their guests will have lunched and be ready to cheer Field on, is against seventh placed Trojans.
