This adds to the Club’s County silverware as the U9s won the Plate competition in the first tournament.

With one of the scheduled teams pulling out earlier in the week, Field were able to enter a Barbarians team - led by outstanding captain, McEwan – in addition to the ‘official’ Petersfield team. Unfortunately, though, the teams were drawn in the same pool.
At the end of the pool stage, Petersfield were top of the group with the Barbarians in second place, both teams progressing to their respective semi-finals.

Despite a fantastic performance, the Barbarians lost to Farnborough, 3-7, whilst the U8’s met an impressive and well-drilled Alton – a repeat of the same fixture at last year’s U7 tournament. The nail biting match required some incredible defensive work to help Field overturn a one-try deficit at half time to secure a 6-5 victory.

Their opponents in the County Final were Havant who had earlier reached the knock-out stage by besting hot favourites, Winchester, to top the pool.

There was a nip and tuck start to the final until Field’s precision and accuracy proved too much for Havant, who were pressured into a handful of errors.

Field showed great discipline, attacking and defending as a unit. Beattie and Bennett stood out in defence and L. Chads epitomised the spirit of the team, bouncing straight back up to realign having been accidently flattened in contact. Meanwhile, the pace of Jordan out wide enabled him to run in three tries in Field’s 5-3 victory.

The new County Champions, were magnanimous in victory and fantastic ambassadors for the club, congratulating Havant on their solid performance.
